T09 Request for useful feedback — Worked example

2026 digital edition · Dr Naeem Aziz DGM FRCP · 2 min read

Hypothetical worked example

Read with chapter 14 and 16

Invite specific evidence rather than a general testimonial. The respondent should be free to describe uncertainty and areas for development.

Purpose and activity

EDU01 concerns a hypothetical short teaching session on making handover ownership and review points explicit. A colleague who observed the session is asked for feedback for educational development and, if agreed, portfolio use.

Request

Please comment on whether the learning task was clear, how I involved participants and how well the examples supported the task. Which part helped learning? Where did my explanation make it harder to follow? Please distinguish what you observed from what you cannot judge.

Illustrative feedback

The first example contained too much background. Participants engaged more readily when the task was narrowed to identifying the action owner and review point. This is hypothetical feedback, not an attributed statement from a real colleague.

Response

The doctor shortened the introductory explanation and added a second exercise. The revision is recorded alongside the original session plan, rather than keeping only favourable feedback.

Limits

This feedback concerns the session and the observer's experience. It does not establish long-term retention, improved clinical performance or patient outcomes. A later review would require its own method.

Handling

A real request should explain who will see the feedback and retain it according to local arrangements. Do not rewrite a respondent's words into a stronger endorsement or imply they observed more than they did.
