What is Better Together?
Better Together is PTHB’s programme to develop sustainable services with residents, staff and partners. The current consultation concerns adult physical and mental health community services, urgent care and some diagnostic services. It emphasises prevention, support at home and coordination between services.
The published consultation runs from 5 October 2026 to 10 January 2027. This summary was checked on 27 October 2026. Read the full documents, including the locality and impact information, before forming a view.
What is being proposed?
The adult physical health options describe community inpatient beds at either three locations—Brecon, Llandrindod Wells and Newtown—or two—Brecon and Newtown—alongside expanded care at home. Urgent-care options include centres at Brecon and Newtown, with or without a minor illness and injury unit at Llandrindod Wells. The mental-health proposal brings inpatient beds to the Bronllys/Brecon area.
These are consultation options, not confirmed service changes. PTHB states that all community hospital sites remain open under the proposals, although their roles could change. Planned care and women’s and children’s services are outside this consultation’s scope. Implementation, if agreed, could extend over up to ten years.
What does this mean for someone joining PTHB?
Use the programme to understand the direction of discussion, while confirming your current base, job plan, responsibilities, support and pathways through your employer. A proposed centre or future model does not change your present duties or authorise a new service.
When reading the proposals, consider travel, access, the workforce and support needed to deliver care, communication between organisations, and the impact on patients and carers. These are prompts for informed engagement, not an endorsement of an option.
The wider annual plan
PTHB’s 2026/27 Annual Plan connects service improvement, financial sustainability, commissioning and care closer to home. Better Together is one part of that wider work. Use the current Board papers for decisions and implementation updates; this independent guide does not reproduce internal workforce plans.
How to contribute and keep up to date
Use PTHB’s official programme page for consultation documents, accessible formats, public events and the questionnaire. Check the deadline and the latest status there before responding. This website does not collect consultation responses.
The summary is a dated reading aid. After the published consultation closing date, check the official outcome rather than treating the options as a decision.
